Spring Break Externship Program

Taubman College's Spring Break Connections externship program allows students to gain experience in a work environment while developing marketable real-world skills.

After a year of 'pandemic pause,' the Externship program is slated to return for U-M winter break, February 28 - March 4, 2022.

About the Program

Gaining hands-on experience in their specific field provides students a deeper understanding of their intended profession. Each year since the early 90's, we have coordinated a one-week unpaid externship during the week of University of Michigan's "spring" (winter semester) break. The program is open to currently enrolled Taubman College students at a junior level and higher.

Traditionally, the student is responsible for all travel and living arrangements and expenses as they are hosted at firms and organizations across the country. As the world of work changes, we will also begin to offer virtual options which increase accessibility to both hosts and students. Host organizations are asked to engage the student in a variety of observational and/or hands-on activities to further their understanding of the practice of architecture, urban planning and/or urban design.

Host Organizations

We would like to thank the firms and organizations that took time from their busy schedules to host a student in the last few years:
