"Spontaneous Mutations, Genetic Deletions, Adaptive Environments, and Assistive Technology in the Compression of Developmental Time" or "Crawling Sticks and Other Architectural Accoutrements, Actants, and Apparatus"
This work situates agendas and acts of research through making that explore the relational mechanics between genomics, architecture and urbanism for extending the operative range of the body regardless of ability. The project objective is to revise the cultural codes through producing devices and environments that choreograph a more actionable architecture responsive to a wider range of sensations and forms of urban euphoria beyond compliant solutions of the lowest order of to accommodate people with a range of abilities. Roughly, the work seeks to exceed normative spheres of civility in the compositional dynamics through which actors and forms coalesce, sensations are transmitted, and subjects and objects coincide.
Compositional dynamics include the following parameters: configuration, a stable but temporal composition; affordance, the capacity for actants to influence, to possess agency; sensation, received transmission; and, formula, programmatic impulses and motives, or a certain capacity-to-structure.
The Asclepius Machine is a ground, a ramp, that like all ancient grounds, is a formalizing device that contours civic potential. As a political intervention it posits other formulas geared to encounter and comply within existing codes, excessively. In this sense the political orientation is not oppositional but compositional.
