Taubman College South African urban planner Cecil Madell, a 2009 University of Michigan African Presidential Scholar, will spend the next two months conducting research at Taubman College. He will work towards his dissertation under the mentorship of Taubman professor June Manning Thomas.
Madell is a seasoned urban planning practitioner and lecturer at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He holds master’s degrees in city and regional planning, as well as in local economic development. Madell has developed considerable expertise and experience in the preparation of policies, strategies and implementation frameworks within the fields of local economic development, urban renewal, urban growth management, and sport and recreation. He has also worked closely with a number of underserved communities in South Africa, and has a passion for local economic development.
