Taubman College Taubman College Dean Jonathan Massey will speak at Princeton University and Harvard University in March about a book of essays on Marcel Breuer he co-edited with Barry Bergdoll. The book, Marcel Breuer: Building Global Institutions, was published in 2018 and features essays by leading scholars who drew on newly digitized archives to interpret Breuer’s work. Breuer, one of the most influential modernist architects of the 1960s and 1970s, is responsible for the design of the Whitney Museum (now called the Met Breuer) in New York City, as well as numerous other structures, including furniture, churches, schools, and private housing complexes.
Massey and Bergdoll will speak at a roundtable at the Princeton University School of Architecture on March 4, along with contributing authors Lucia Allais and Guy Nordenson. The event will take place in Betts Auditorium at 6 p.m.
Massey also will speak at Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD) on March 23 as part of the architecture department’s “Books and Looks” Lunch Talk Series. The series brings together GSD faculty and other professionals through a series of paired discussions where each guest presents a book, with the goal of sparking “enthralling conversations between architects, historians and curators of different generations.”
