Detroit Housing Studio Illustrates Innovative Affordable-Housing Solutions to Detroit Residents

Detroit’s ABC affiliate, WXYZ Channel 7, recently featured Taubman College’s Detroit Housing Studio, a partnership with the City of Detroit. This semester, 180 graduate thesis students are working with the city’s planning and development department to explore innovative affordable-housing solutions for specific vacant lots in Detroit’s growing neighborhoods — lots that are in the pipeline, ready for development.

The city will present the students’ proposals to contractors, and those students are hoping to continue the studio’s recent success. Now in its third year, the most recent Detroit Housing Studio created a model for the space on Alfred Street near the Dequindre Cut — a model that has received a lot of interest from developers.
