Urban Planning and Architecture Students Spend Valentine’s Day Volunteering in Flint

A group of Urban Planning students and an Architecture student volunteered on Valentine’s Day as part of Michigan Planners Network, a local chapter of an international network of students and professionals, to a campaign called Flint Rising. The campaign is a grassroots coalition of social workers, residents, and other passionate individuals that gather to identify and help address immediate needs regarding the Flint water crisis, while working with the community to allow other voices to be heard.

As a part of the service day, students went door to door to see if families needed bottled water, had the ability to get water, and had water filters, as well as to determine if pregnant women or breastfeeding mothers needed particular help. That information was relayed back to Flint Rising where action could be taken.
