Taubman College Launch of Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Sustainability
The UM School of Natural Resources launched a new Graduate Certificate in Sustainability, eligible to students enrolled in a graduate degree program for at least one completed term. Complementary to the Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning programs, the certificate provides the knowledge, skill sets, and credentials relevant to better position students for opportunities in the emerging green economy and in the private for-profit, public, and non-profit sectors.
Areas of focus include Sustainable Food Systems, Transitional Thinking for a Sustainable Society, Sustainable Cities, Sustainable Policy, Sustainable Energy, Sustainable Management of Biological Resources, and Sustainable Water Systems. The deadline to apply for Fall admission is February 1, 2016, and the deadline for Winter admission is October 1, 2016.
Assistant Professor of Urban Planning Lesli Hoey is a faculty affiliate with the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative.
“This certificate shows the prominent role issues of sustainability play across the university, both within more established units like the Urban and Planning Program, as well as emerging interdisciplinary networks of faculty like the Sustainable Food Systems Initiative,” said Hoey. “We are pleased to represent the important role urban planners play in the intricate and interdependent needs sustainable community design requires.”
