The Huron Valley chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Huron Valley) announced the recipients of its 2016 Honor Awards Program at its biennial awards ceremony at the Bentley Historical Library on October 23rd, 2015.

AIA presented the Emil Lorch Award to Dr. James Chaffers, an emeritus Professor of Architecture. This award recognizes a chapter member in education coincident with professional practice, corporate enterprise, government, or legislation who has made exceptional contributions to the profession in academia and an allied field or corporate enterprise, and who promoted the mission of the AIA in their endeavors. Chaffers was recognized due to his distinguished academic and professional career.

AIA also presented Assistant Professor Neal Robinson with an award in the Small Project/Low Budget category. Robinson and his architecture firm, N_Space Architecture, received this award for their work on Iorio’s Gelateria. The building was described as “very nice sculptural gestures, materials [and] execution of architecture,” by the AIA.
