Taubman College MUP Students Start Back to School with Habitat for Humanity
Fifteen incoming and returning U-M Taubman College MUP students participated in a day-long volunteer service activity with Habitat for Humanity for Washtenaw County on August 29, 2015. The students helped put finishing touches on a house in Ypsilanti for the Joiner Family, including putting on siding, assembling cabinets and installing screen doors.
“Service activities has a mutual benefit for students and the community, said second year MUP student and organizer, Aayat Ali. “It fosters relationships in a real and organic way. It was great to see team-building in action among incoming and returning students as we figured out how to install screen doors. It puts our education into perspective and our role in the community.”
“I just felt so happy, and to see so many people working with so much energy and joy, was just awesome! I’m even more excited about the courses now!” said incoming MUP student Prashanth Chamarthi Rajendra Raju. Faculty members Joe Grengs and Lesli Hoey attended the volunteer day with students.
