MAKING VISIBLE: Black Contributors in the Built Environment

In celebration of Black History Month, NOMAS has installed a gallery showcase in the Commons to emphasize the month’s theme - Making Visible. This exhibit showcases 40 notable Black architects, planners, and social innovators who have played a past and present role in the development of pedagogy and practice of the built environment. Visitors are invited to consider diversity—and the lack thereof—in the professions today, as they view a subset of the many Black professionals who have contributed to the development of the built environment. From barrier-breaking pioneers to graduates of Taubman College (distinguished by their Maize-colored background), these accomplished professionals are a reminder of the intelligence, ambition, and perseverance African Americans have exuded over time
