Lecturer

Claudia Wigger is a lecturer at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, which she joined in 2011. She currently teaches core technical courses in construction, design studios, and seminars exploring issues of urban density. Her research focuses on high-density housing and intense mixed-use developments. She has received the 2021 Donna M. Salzer Award for Teaching Excellence, awarded by the graduating master’s class.

Claudia has 20 years of experience as a licensed architect through collaborations and international consulting, such as Foster and Partners and Sauerbruch Hutton, both in Berlin; RAD in Hong Kong; and Hamilton Anderson Associates in Detroit. Her professional experience bridges small-scale interior projects and large-scale mixed-use buildings and urban master plans. In 2008, Wigger co-founded ICE—ideas for contemporary environments, an architectural practice based in Detroit, Hong Kong, and Berlin. ICE’s design work has been featured in various international design publications, exhibitions, and digital media.

Claudia Wigger holds a master’s degree (Dipl.-Ing.) from Technical University Berlin.
